While you check the latest Instagram post from people you follow, you will notice some posts from companies’ accounts which you never followed, and it might be related to your interests! The same thing happens with Twitter, Facebook, and the list goes on. This (promoted posts) called (Social media marketing) where companies would pay the social media platform to show their advertisements to a specific audience.

What is Social media marketing?

Social Media Marketing is using social media platforms for marketing purpose; you can do that by creating content which suits the used platform. SMM is a sort of digital marketing where a digital medium or channel is used. The term, digital marketing, appeared at earlier 1990s. One of the social media marketing advantages is that it allows the audience to engage with the business. It also offers the company the ability to analyze their marketing campaigns.

What is it good for?

In 2019, Facebook reached over 2.4 billion active users. That means more than half of the internet active users are using that platform according to Statista. That means SMM can offer the business an excellent opportunity to raise brand awareness.

The budget wouldn’t be an issue in social media, as ads can be free through the company’s social media accounts, but it also might cost as high as the traditional marketing if not more! Amazon has spent almost $4.5 billion in advertising, most of that goes to internet ads, including social media. 

Interacting through social media platforms by answering questions, responding to requests, and understand their needs through their comments and interaction can help the business to build a stronger relationship with customers. 

Another advantage which social media can offer is keeping you closer to competitors. You can monitor their activities and how they manage their social media accounts. That might give a better understanding of what their customers expect, and you can fulfil that needs.
